The Security Media Cell announced that a number of citizens and security forces were injured in an armed clash between security forces and gunmen east of Baghdad. It said in a statement that at 1700 hours on Sunday, there was a gathering and movement of people, some of them armed and on vehicles, within Al-Obaidi area, east of the capital, Baghdad, which the security forces confronted firmly. Shooting occurred, leading to the injury of a number of citizens as well as the security forces, which required reinforcement. The scene of the accident was equipped with additional units for the purpose of arresting anyone who tampers with security and transgresses the laws and security units. It confirmed that the security and intelligence services have identified and will pursue those responsible for these actions that threaten societal peace, expose citizens to danger, and distract security forces from carrying out their important duties to confront challenges. It stated that the law and our various security depar tments are responsible for dealing firmly and taking legal measures against elements who abuse and transgress by using social media sites and other means to create strife, threaten societal peace, and bypass laws. It continued: Our security forces will deal firmly in accordance with the laws and what is dictated by their legal and functional responsibilities and the honor of the duty to protect the constitution and protect the people and public and private property.
