The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced that one hundred and twenty-six Iraqi universities and colleges achieved competitive positions in the (Webometrics) global classification in its second edition for the year 2024. The results of the classification (www.webometrics.info/en/Asia/Iraq) showed thirty thousand university institutions around the world competing according to indicators that measure the virtual presence of universities through their locations, indicating the percentage of clarity (50%), transparency (10%), and the strength and excellence of research ( 40%). The current version witnessed an increase in the Iraqi universities index compared to the previous version, as the University of Baghdad came at the top of one hundred and twenty-six universities, then it was followed by the universities of Diyala, Al-Mustansiriya, Mosul, Kufa, Anbar, the Middle Euphrates Technical University, Al-Qadisiyah, and other Iraqi universities indicated by the official website of the clas sification affiliated with the Supreme Center for Scientific Research in Spain. It explained that Iraq ranked first in the Arab world and seventh in the world in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2024 in terms of the number of universities participating in the 2024 edition, while Iraqi universities and colleges recorded their increasing competition in other global classifications, including the Shanghai Classification of Subjects for the year 2023, in which the University of Baghdad appeared within the specialty (Dentistry and Oral Sciences), the (QS) classification, whose version for the year 2025 witnesses the presence of five Iraqi universities, the (Scimago) classification, in which there are forty-seven institutions, and the (Greenmetric) classification, in which there is an increase in the number of Iraqi educational institutions has reached seventy-four universities and colleges, and the RUR classification, in which forty-five Iraqi universities are present.
