Baghdad: The leader of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, offered his condolences to all Muslims and the Iraqi people on the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him. Al-Maliki said in a statement: Peace be upon you, O Master of Martyrs, and upon your family and your martyred supporters in your hands... I offer my sincere condolences to all Muslims in the East and West of the earth, and in particular to the Iraqi people, on the anniversary of the immortal Karbala incident and the martyrdom of the father of the free, Imam Hussein bin Ali bin Abi Talib, and his pure family and companions (peace be upon them). He added that the epic of Karbala is one of the most important historical events, and the most important achievements of humanity in the fields of armed struggle and revolution against injustice and tyranny, and on the day of Karbala the whole world stands and draws from Hussein (peace be upon him) the lessons of strength, courage and principles that distinguished Hussein (peace be upon him) and his companions from the hypocrites and criminals who betrayed the trust of God and His Messenger by killing the Imam and capturing his women, and he is the one about whom God's prayers and peace be upon him said (Al-Hassan and Al-Hussein are two Imams whether they stand or sit). Therefore, Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) was keen to define and declare his goal, which is reform in the nation of his grandfather, based on the means of enjoining good and forbidding evil, and to present to the world afflicted by oppressors, lessons of revolution, strength and steadfastness of sacred goals, so peace be upon Hussein and Ali Ibn Al-Hussein and the children of Hussein and the companions of Hussein who sacrificed their lives for Hussein. Al-Maliki concluded: May God reward us and you greatly for the tragedy of Abu Abdullah Al-Hussein (peace be upon him). Source: National Iraqi News Agency
