AL WAKRAH (FR) (Al Wukair x Al Thakhira), a 2-year-old filly who represents the Al Shaqab Racing silk, opened her scorecard on her second racecourse start when winning the Prix de Choisel, a maiden over 1.100 metres for 2-year-olds at Chateaubriant, France on Saturday, 29 May. The Simone Brogi-trained filly showed nice progress since her debut, earlier in May, when she finished 7th over the same distance at Tarbes.
Ridden by Jordan Plateaux, AL WAKRAH broke well from the starting gate at Chateaubriant and was in a mid-position. Round the first bend, she got closer to the three runners in the front. She improved more at the final bend and accelerated well at the beginning of the home straight. In the final furlong, she kicked clear to take the lead and win by a length. REGALIEN (FR) (Goken x strands of silk) finished second for trainer Yann Barberot and jockey Clement Guitraud while the J. Boisnard-trained and Theo Bachelot-ridden LISANA (FR) (Charm Spirit x Verba Stars) was further 1¾-lengths behind in third.
AL WAKRAH is now the second winner for her sire, AL WUKAIR, based at the Haras de Bouquetot. Her dam, AL THAKHIRA (Dubawi), has won a Gr2 and has already produced a winner, ERAIDAH (Toronado). She has a yearling colt by SHALAA.
