Al Shaqab Racing’s LAFAN opens account at Chelmsford

World Sports

Having his first run after being gelded, the Al Shaqab Racing owned three-year-old LAFAN (Dandy Man x Light Glass) took the Full Works Handicap at Chelmsford City Racecourse on Saturday, August 22nd.

Trained by Richard Hannon, LAFAN was having his first start in an all-weather handicap and was ridden to success by apprentice jockey Thore Hammer Hansen.

Settled towards the rear through the first half of the 1,600m contest, LAFAN travelled well in the hands of Hammer Hansen. ART DEALER (Showcasing) set a decent pace in the early stages along with the keen-going VASCO DA GAMA (Dansili). LAFAN remained in the rear until rounding the home turn and was asked to close 500m from home. As the early pace setters dropped away, MAYSONG (Mayson) took over and looked to have stolen first-run on the field. Closing strongly in the home straight, LAFAN was checked in his run 200m from the line, but once switched outside, the gelding ran on strongly to score by half a length at the line. MAYSONG took second and SECRET MOMENT (Exceed and Excel) held on well for third.

Bred by Drumlin Bloodstock, LAFAN is by Ballyhane Stud’s stallion DANDY MAN (Mozart). His dam LIGHT GLASS (Lope De Vega) comes from the family of French Listed winner SHAMTEE (Sharmadal).
