At least 22 people were killed in a school building collapse in central Nigeria after heavy rains for several days. Musa Ibrahim Ashoms, the information and communications officer for Plateau State, said in statements that the building of the Saint Academy Secondary School in the city of Khos collapsed, adding that the accident resulted in the deaths of at least 22 people, and the injury of 130 other students and school staff, who were transported to nearby hospitals to receive treatment.' The official said the death toll was likely to rise due to the seriousness of the injuries sustained by some of the injured, noting that 200 students were in the part of the two-story building that collapsed, while rescuers were searching for possible survivors under the rubble. He stated that the authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact causes of the building's collapse, and are seeking to provide a space that can be used as a temporary school.' It is noteworthy that in 2019, Nigeria recorded t he death of eight children in an accident that collapsed in a three-story building containing a school in the city of Lagos, southwest of the country.
