Liuyang: Chinese authorities said the death toll from an explosion at a fireworks factory in central China's Hunan province has risen to 37, with one person still missing.
According to Qatar News Agency, the blast occurred on Monday evening at a fireworks plant in the city of Liuyang, a major hub for China's fireworks industry.
The explosion also injured 51 people, including five who remain in critical condition.
Chinese authorities said a task force had been formed and more than 1,500 personnel deployed to carry out rescue operations and provide medical treatment to those affected.
Police have reportedly summoned eight people on suspicion of negligence linked to the incident.
Following the explosion, Hunan's emergency management authorities ordered the immediate suspension of production at all fireworks companies across the province while comprehensive safety inspections are carried out to eliminate potential hazards.
