Foreign Minister participates in Arab Troika meeting with UN Security Council members

New York, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in the meeting of the Arab Troika, on the sidelines of the meetings of the 79th session of the United Nations of the General Assembly. The meeting included Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq, with members of the UN Security Council. Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Saudi Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Fuad Hussein, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, participated in the meeting. The side of the member states of the Security Council was chaired Tanja Fajon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia, who chairs over the Security Council at the current session, in the presence of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the States members of the Security Council in its current session. In his speech, the minister emphasised the significance of the collaborative session between the Security Council and the League of Arab States. He highlighted its role in strengthening efforts to uphold regional peace and security, as well as resolving conflicts in the Arab region through peaceful means. Dr. Al Zayani noted that the Arab region is currently facing many conflicts and crises, foremost of which is the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, ongoing conflicts in Libya, Sudan, Syria, Yemen and Somalia. He also pointed to the threat of terrorism of all kinds, and the impact of all this on the economic and social conditions on Arab societies, regional security and stability, and international peace and security. The minister commended the role of the Security Council in addressing the various existing conflicts, through the wise decisions taken by the Council in compliance with its international responsibilities. He said that these efforts are a significant step toward enhancing international peace and security, expressing regret that those decisions, which require intensive efforts in proposal, preparation, approval , and which do not always find the way to full implementation in reality. The minister said that the Arab Summit at its 33rd session, the "Bahrain Summit," which was held last May, under the presidency of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, affirmed the firm position of Arab countries, in calling for a just and sustainable peace in the region, and adopted several constructive initiatives, including the call for Bahrain to host an international conference for peace in the Middle East to resolve the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution, establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. He added that Bahrain also supports international recognition of this state as a full member of the UN and aims to provide educational and health services to those affected by conflicts in the region in cooperation with relevant international organisations. Dr. Al Zayani said that several world leaders expressed their support for these charitable initiatives, exp ressing hope for more international support for such initiatives aimed at promoting world peace, especially from the Security Council concerned with the maintenance of international peace and security.
