Prague: GCC Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed Al Budaiwi affirmed that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries remain committed to promoting global security and stability in partnership with regional and international partners amid rapid geopolitical shifts and mounting security and economic challenges.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al Budaiwi spoke during a session on Gulf-European strategic relations at the GLOBSEC 2026 Global Security Forum in Prague. He highlighted recent developments in the region that have significantly impacted security and stability. GCC member states have been actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and promote dialogue and diplomacy to preserve regional security and stability.
He underscored the importance of protecting air and maritime security, ensuring freedom of navigation, safeguarding supply chains, and maintaining stability in global energy markets. Al Budaiwi emphasized that Gulf stability remains a crucial pillar of the global economy and international maritime security.
Al Budaiwi also pointed out that recent developments have shown the interconnectedness of security between Europe and the Middle East. Instability in the Gulf and surrounding waterways has direct implications for the European economy, global energy security, supply chains, and international stability.
He stressed that the Gulf's stability is no longer just a regional issue but a shared international interest. Addressing the future of Gulf-European relations, Al Budaiwi stated that both sides are working to expand cooperation across various areas. The forthcoming Gulf-European summit is expected to further strengthen ties and advance shared interests, with an emphasis on achieving practical outcomes that reinforce existing cooperation.
