Gold prices rose amid optimism about a cut in US interest rates, while traders are awaiting economic data for clues on the path that the Federal Reserve (the US central bank) will follow. Safe-haven spot gold rose 0.3 percent to $2,389.42 an ounce, while US gold futures fell 0.2 percent to $2,428.40.
