Owned and bred by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani, STRANGER (Charm Spirit x Al Zarqa) was back in the winners’ enclosure on Wednesday, 3 February, evening. The 4-year-old colt has been a model of consistency in his racing career, with 2 wins and 10 places in 16 starts!
He was partnered by jockey Vincent Cheminaud in the Prix de Vintimille, a handicap over 1 mile on the all-weather. He was sent forward by his jockey to sit in fourth position. There was plenty of pace in the early stages with BARAKATLE (Poet’s Voice x Baraket) and GRATIANE (Milanais x Gymnote) leading neck and neck until the straight. STRANGER came to the outside of the pacemakers and came with a strong acceleration in the final 200 metres, winning by a comfortable length in front of FAITHFILLY MAN (Charm Spirit x Faithfilly). Trained by Henri-Alex Pantall, STRANGER was coming into this race off a second place on 20January over 1,500m on the same course.
The first two home are both by CHARM SPIRIT, who also ran in the colours of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani. Now a proven sire, he has returned to France for the 2021 where he stands at Haras du Logis Saint-Germain. STRANGER was also bred by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani. He is out of the winning mare AL ZARQA, who herself carried the maroon and white silks.
