In a race reserved to unraced two-year-old fillies, OSMOSE (Zoffany x Meseika) carried the colours of her owner His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani to a comfortable success when taking the Prix Le Cyrano at Deauville on Tuesday, August 17th.
Trained by Jean-Claude Rouget, OSMOSE was always well-positioned by her jockey Cristian Demuro throughout the 1,200m contest. Breaking smartly from stall three, she was settled just behind the leaders as ZANOTCHKA (Zarak) took the field through the first half of the race. With a sensible pace being set, OSMOSE was always travelling strongly for Demuro. Inside the final 400m, ZANOTCHKA began to give way and was flanked and passed by both OSMOSE and ENFANT ROUGE (Bated Breath). The pair began to draw clear of the field, but OSMOSE proved much the better inside the final 200m and went on to score by two lengths. ENFANT ROUGE stuck on gamely to take second, withBEAUTY QUEEN (Territories) doing some good late work to take third.
Winning trainer Jean-Claude Rouget said after the race: “She was straight into the action there. She has a good temperament and is very straightforward to ride. Cristian said that he only had to pull her out and away she went. She wasn’t fully wound up for this and she looked a little round in the paddock. She should come on nicely for that. I think she has a lot of potential, but over the shorter trips.”
Bred by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani’s Al Shahania Stud, OSMOSE is by now deceased Group One stallion ZOFFANY (Dansili). Her dam MESEIKA (Medaglia d’Oro) was unraced and is a daughter of Group One Breeders Cup Fillies and Mares winner UNRIVALED BELLE (Unbrideled’s Song).
