PARMENION (GB) (Soldier Hollow x Pearls Or Passion), who is bred and owned by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani, opened his scorecard on his debut in the Prix Radio Kazak (Prix Charles Giraudon) at Craon, France on Thursday, 17 June. Trained by Edouard Monfort, the baygelding was ridden to victory by Sébastien Martino in the 2,200-metre maiden race for 3-year-olds.
Taking up position on the outside, PARMENION quickly settled into the leading group. Progressing to fifth coming off the final turn, he easily took the advantage 200 metres from the post and reached the post three lengths ahead of the FH. Graffard-trained and Theo Bachelot-ridden LAISHANN (Footstepsinthesand) (FR), who, in turn, was a short head in front of KER WELEN (FR) (Dariyan), who is trained by N. Leenders and was ridden by Maximilien Justum.
His trainer, Édouard de Montfort – author of a hat-trick at Craon on Thursday with Sébastien Martino – told us: “He arrived in my stable just a month and a half or two months ago. He took a long time to come into himself and is just now starting to mature. I was aiming for this race to get him started. He has room for improvement and won today on his class. We’ll see how he recovers before we decide what to do next, but we’ll likely step up in category with him.“
Bred by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s Al Shahania Stud, PARMENION is a son of SOLDIER HOLLOW (In the Wings), stationed at Gestüt Auenquelle, and is out of PEARLS OR PASSION (Monsun), winner of three races over 2,400m from 3 to 4 years old including the Panacea Prize (L). She also finished second in the Prix Joubert (L). PARMENION is the third winning for his dam following PODEMOS (Shamardal), a dual winner as a 3-year-old over 2,200m in Kempton and third in the Floodlit Stakes (L) and PELLIGRINA (Soldier Hollow), winner of two races at 3, including the Prix de Royaumont (Gr3, 2,400m) from just three outings.
