The number of victims and injured from rains and floods in Al Hudaydah Governorate, western Yemen, since the beginning of last month has risen to 129 people. The Emergency Committee in Al Hudaydah Governorate said in a statement carried by the Houthi-affiliated Yemeni News Agency (Saba) today, Tuesday, that "the number of victims of the floods that Al Hudaydah Governorate witnessed has risen to 95 dead and 34 injured." It added that "11 people died during the past three days in drowning accidents, house collapses and lightning strikes due to the heavy rains that have hit a number of directorates since last Tuesday evening." The committee pointed out the continuation of emergency relief work and assistance to affected families whose homes were swept away by floods, as well as opening and leveling blocked roads and implementing urgent measures to drain flood waters to mitigate the damage and losses resulting from heavy rains and floods. Heavy rains and floods in Yemen have been concentrated since the beginn ing of last August in the governorates of Hodeidah, Marib, Al Mahwit, Raymah, Hadhramaut, Taiz, Saada, Hajjah and Sana'a.
