Iranian-Iraqi consultations to combat cross-border dust storms

An Iranian delegation headed today, Sunday, to Baghdad, including representatives of environmental and agricultural affairs in the country, to hold bilateral discussions on combating cross-border dust and sand storms, and to adopt joint projects for preventive afforestation in this context.

According to the "IRNA" Agency, this delegation is led by the Advisor to the head of the Environmental Protection Organization in Iran, with the participation of the secretary of the Iranian committee concerned with planning and coordination to combat sand and dust storms, and a representative of the greening and preventive afforestation unit at the Iranian Ministry of Agricultural Jihad.

It added, the Iranian Environment Organization delegation is seeking, throughout its current visit to Iraq, to agree on adopting a joint regional plan on combating dust winds and the cross-border dust phenomenon, forming a regional working group and also implementing joint operations in this context.

According to "IRNA", the Advisor to the Iranian Deputy Minister of Agricultural Jihad, Ali Reza Yazdani, explained that, "given the experiences based on international standards that Iran has gained in the field of dealing with dust storms, improving soil and using water resources, it was decided to share these experiences with Iraq."

It added that the most important objectives of this visit are to take joint executive measures with the neighboring country, Iraq, in order to allow the sharing of useful scientific and technical expertise to combat sand and dust winds, with experts and officials in this country, and to prepare the ground for the formation of a joint technical working group, and thus the adoption and implementation of the regional draft plan proposed by Iran in this regard.
