Iraq and Lebanon discuss the implementation of the MoU on combating corruption

The Integrity Commission announced today, Friday, an agreement with the National Anti-Corruption Commission in the Lebanese Republic to activate a memorandum of understanding between them in cooperation in combating corruption, extraditing wanted persons, and recovering smuggled funds. A statement of the commission of integrity stated that the head of the Federal Integrity Commission, Judge Haider Hanoun, praised during his meeting in Beirut the head of the National Anti-Corruption Commission in the Lebanese Republic, Judge Claude Karam, the cooperation between counterpart agencies and institutions in the Arab countries, especially between the Iraqi Integrity Commission and the National Anti-Corruption Commission in the Lebanese Republic. Hanoun expressed his happiness that the efforts were crowned with the conclusion of a memorandum of understanding between the Iraqi Integrity Commission and the National Anti-Corruption Commission in the Lebanese Republic, calling for intensifying cooperation and coordinat ion between all institutions in the two countries in what is in their highest interest, especially the institutions specialized in combating corruption and preserving public money. " The two sides agreed, according to the statement, 'to implement the memorandum with all its provisions, and to discuss establishing points of contact between the two parties to strengthen the relationship and facilitate the implementation of the contents of the memorandum, noting the importance of spreading the culture of integrity and the sanctity of public money, selecting the competent and honest employee in the regulatory bodies, and applying strict criteria for selecting the employee applying for the job in those devices. In a related context, the Chairman of the Integrity Commission met with the Minister of Justice of the Lebanese Republic, Judge Henry Khoury, and discussed the topics of extraditing those wanted for corruption crimes to the Iraqi state and smuggled funds and assets, exchanging information about the accuse d, and providing legal assistance in this regard. It is noteworthy that the Iraqi Integrity Commission and the Lebanese National Anti-Corruption Commission concluded, in February 2024, a memorandum of understanding aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation and exchanging visions, policies, experiences and studies regarding comprehensive measures and strategies taken to prevent and combat corruption, following up on requests for legal assistance and procedures for extraditing those wanted in corruption cases and recovering looted fund and their proceeds obtained from corruption crimes, with the competent national authorities.
