Berlin: King Abdullah II of Jordan has urged the international community to take a clear stance and immediate action to end the humanitarian tragedy in the Gaza Strip.
According to Qatar News Agency, in a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz following talks in Berlin, King Abdullah II stressed that the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip must stop, the ceasefire must be restored, and humanitarian response efforts must resume.
He also reiterated the need to halt the dangerous escalation in the West Bank, where tens of thousands of Palestinians have been displaced from their homes and villages. He stated that the displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza threatens to plunge the entire region into instability.
He warned of the danger of attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, which cause further tension and undermine any chance for peace. He pointed out that the path forward lies through a political solution based on the two-state solution, ensuring peace and security for Palestinians, Israelis, and the entire region.
The King of Jordan also stressed the need to work to achieve stability in the region, by supporting Syria and its efforts to preserve its security, stability, and territorial integrity.
In turn, the German Chancellor stressed the need to restore the ceasefire in Gaza and allow humanitarian aid to enter, warning of the danger of not allowing such aid in.
He explained that the lasting peace required to stabilize the situation in Gaza and the West Bank can only be achieved through a political solution. Therefore, it is imperative to return to serious negotiations with the aim of agreeing on a solution after the war in the Gaza Strip.
He reiterated Germany’s stance on the two-state solution, as it is the only sustainable solution that guarantees peace and security in the Middle East.
