Lebanese PM Discusses Southern Lebanon Developments with US Official

Beirut: Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met Saturday with US deputy special envoy for the Middle East, Morgan Ortagus, in Beirut to discuss the latest developments in southern Lebanon.

According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting addressed measures taken by the Lebanese army to implement UN Resolution 1701 and the security arrangements for halting hostilities, in coordination with the military monitoring committee. Discussions also covered the completion of Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese territories.

The talks extended to financial and economic reforms, with the US official praising Lebanon’s banking sector reform bill, administrative and institutional restructuring plans, and anti-corruption efforts. Both sides emphasized the importance of reaching an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Separately, Lebanese Army Commander Brig. Gen. Rodolphe Haikal also met with Ortagus today to review the general situation in Lebanon and the broader region.
