Beirut: Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said on Thursday that Lebanon cannot sign any agreement that does not include a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory.
According to Qatar News Agency, Salam urged the administration of US President Donald Trump to pressure Israel to reduce its demands and end its incursion into Lebanon. He emphasized that Lebanon cannot coexist with a so-called buffer zone where displaced residents are not permitted to return to their towns and villages.
Salam also made an appeal to both Washington and Paris, asking for their assistance to expand and strengthen the capabilities of the Lebanese Army. He highlighted the need for equipment and training, pointing out that the process of arming the army exclusively is one that requires time and cannot occur overnight.
Last week, President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon for a period of ten days.
