Ministry of Health: Destroying approximately 180 kilograms of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances

The Ministry of Health announced the destruction of approximately (180) kilograms of narcotics and psychotropic substances in the forensic medicine department in Baghdad.

The Ministry stated in a statement that in the presence of Judge Suhaib Dahham Al-Maadidi, Vice President of the Baghdad Court of Appeal, Al-Rusafa as Chairman, and all members of the destruction committee from the Directorate of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, the General Authority for Customs, the Directorate of Customs Police, and the director of the Department of Follow-up of the work of the General Authority for Narcotic Affairs in the Ministry of Health, the Committee continued to destroy Drugs by destroying new quantities of drugs seized according to the law and stored in the forensic medicine department in the capital, Baghdad, today, Thursday, August 31, 2023.

Director of the Follow-up Department of the Supreme Commission for Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ahmed Abadi, stated that approximately (900, 264, 176) "one hundred and seventy-six kilograms, two hundred and sixty-four grams, and nine hundred milligrams" of preserved narcotic substances, which included crystals, Heroin, Captagon, marijuana, opium, and a group of drugs in various forms in the forensic medicine department in the capital, Baghdad, which were seized according to legal records, were destroyed..

Judge Suhaib Daham Al-Maadidi stated that the destruction of drugs is within the government program and an achievement of the Iraqi government, and it is an important step in the process of eliminating trafficking and drug abuse, stressing that it was destroyed after examining it and making sure of its nature according to the instructions of Drug Law No. 50 of 2017, Article 42.
