New Novels Released by Qatari Author and Historian Abdulaziz Al Bohashem

Doha: Qatari author and historian Abdulaziz Al Bohashem Al Sayed has recently released two new novels diving into the history of hunting and the relationship between Arabs and falcons.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al Sayed elaborated on his latest works, stressing that his first novel interweaves storytelling with historical research, dating back to Al Harith bin Muawiya bin Thawr Al Kindi and his history with taming the falcons. He emphasized that falcons became a symbol of strength, determination, and skill among Arabs.

Al Sayed explained that the novel tells the tale of young men from Qatar, bonded by adventure and camaraderie, who embark on a hunting trip in Saudi Arabia’s wilderness. He highlighted that they were joined by friends from Saudi Arabia and the UAE, spending enjoyable days hunting houbara bustards with their trained falcons. The novel, he noted, includes rich details about the history, names of falcons, and hunting tools.

Furthermore, Al Sayed stressed that the plot follows a journey filled with drama and adventure, from the kidnapping of Fahd to the loss of Hussein’s falcon. He underlined that although the events are fictional, they are inspired by the authentic and enjoyable experiences of falconry.

Discussing his second novel, Al Sayed clarified that it is inspired by Qatar’s maritime heritage, set in 1937. The story follows a young man named Rashid, whose father, a dhow captain, wants him to learn the art of trade. Al Sayed pointed out that Rashid travels to Bombay and other regions, gaining experience and facing challenges to earn his family’s trust.

He emphasized that the novel reflects the historical maritime activities of Al Wakrah, showcasing the trade journeys that brought various goods, like pearls, dates, coffee, and horses, to different parts of the world. Al Sayed added that the story underscores the values and legacy of trade, turning it into a way of life passed down through generations.
