DOHA, Second Vice-President of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and President of the Qatar Athletics Federation Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari expressed his delight with the great success of the Doha round of the Diamond League, which took place today at Suhaim bin Hamad stadium at Qatar Sports Club with a record number of Olympic and World champions participating.
He said that the Doha document was a success in terms of the organization or the level of participation and competition. He thanked President of QOC HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani for attending the round this year. He noted that the State of Qatar has once again proven to the world that it is capable of hosting major sporting events, adding that it is something that makes the committee proud.
Secretary-General of Qatar Athletics Federation Mohammed Issa Al Fadala praised the good organization and the level of competition in this year's Doha round of the Diamond League despite the difficult conditions facing the world as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. He expressed his delight with the praise legends of the game had for Qatar's organizational capabilities, which he said reflects the country's ability to successfully host any sporting event regardless of the circumstances.
For his part, Qatari Olympic champion Motaz Barshim said that winning second place in the high jump competition today was satisfactory given it was his start to the season. He added that he always looks to achieve the best results, but maintained that it was still early in the season. He said that he will start a more focused preparation for the Olympics following the Rome round two weeks from now. He added that he hopes to win a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
