Qatar Commends Efforts by DRC and Rwanda to De-escalate Tensions in Eastern Congo

Doha: The State of Qatar welcomed recent statements from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Rwanda, highlighting their commitment to de-escalate tensions in the eastern region of Congo. This development follows the announcement by the M23 group regarding their withdrawal from the Walikale area, which Qatar perceives as a significant step towards achieving stability and peace in the region.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar expressed its full appreciation for the efforts by both DRC and Rwanda to engage in dialogue aimed at calming the situation in Eastern Congo. The Ministry commended their positive engagement and efforts to resolve the crisis through peaceful initiatives and expressed hope for the continuation of this constructive approach and positive spirit to ensure the protection of civilians, as well as to achieve security and development.

The Ministry reiterated Qatar’s support for the Nairobi and Luanda process, which are integrated into the framework of the East African Community and the Southern African Development Community (EAC-SADC). Qatar maintains a firm position advocating for the resolution of disputes through dialogue and peaceful means, while respecting the principles of international law, to enhance stability and consolidate international peace and security.
