The 2-year-old filly SUSPICIOUS (GB) (Nathaniel x White Cay) opened her scorecard on her debut in the EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes at Doncaster on Saturday, 14 August, for the silks of Qatar Racing Limited.

Trained by Ralph Beckett, SUSPICIOUS sat in behind the leaders in this mile race on the straight. Steady in the early stages under a lead from MAGGIE’S JOY (GB) (Time Test x Pure Joy), the fillies ran in a tightly packed group with little change in the running order. Reaching the two-furlong pole, the leaders began to accelerate sharply on the good to firm ground and jockey Cieren Fallon switched SUSPICIOUS to the running rail. Showing a smart turn of foot, she quickly came to the lead alongside the Saeed bin Suroor-trained and Pat Cosgrave-ridden BEAUTIFUL SECRET (GB) (Invincible Spirit x Beautiful Forest). The two fillies pulled clear of the rest of the field with a furlong still left to run. They battled neck and neck to the line, with SUSPICIOUS gaining the advantage in the final strides to win by a neck. The George Scott-trained and Callum Shepherd-ridden KICK ON GIRL (IRE) (Vadamos x Elkmait) was the nearest to the duo as she finished two and a half lengths back in third.

SUSPICIOUS was a Yearling purchase by Qatar Racing Limited racing manager David Redvers at the Deauville Select Yearling Sale in 2019. Bred by Overbury Stallions & Dukes Stud, she is out of the DALAKHANI mare WHITE CAY, who has produced two Stakes performers in DYNAMIC (Teofilo) and CAY DANCER (Danehill Dancer).
