Doha: In a series of editorials, Qatari newspapers have emphasized the critical phase that the Palestinian people are currently enduring, marked by what is described as an existential threat due to actions by Israel, the occupying power. This includes accusations of a war of extermination and ethnic cleansing. The newspapers have condemned recent legislative developments, including a law that permits settlers to own land in the West Bank and the ratification of measures that pave the way for the legalization of 13 illegal settlement neighborhoods as colonial settlements.
According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers have also focused on Qatar’s condemnation of continued Israeli aggression, particularly in the Gaza Strip. Israel has announced the establishment of a special agency for the “voluntary departure” of Palestinians from Gaza, a move Qatar argues violates international laws. The editorials urge the international community to move beyond mere condemnation and to take legal and moral responsibility to halt the aggression, ensuring Palestinians’ rights to life, medical services, and humanitarian aid.
Al-Sharq editorial noted that Qatar’s government has consistently reported the hardships faced by Palestinians due to Israeli actions, highlighting forced displacement, settlement policies, and the denial of essential humanitarian aid. These acts, according to Al-Sharq, contribute to infrastructure destruction and severe living conditions for the Palestinian people.
Al-Raya echoed these sentiments, condemning the legislative changes in the West Bank as violations of international law and an obstruction to peace efforts in the Middle East. The editorial warns of the escalating situation in Gaza, where aggression continues, and essential supplies dwindle, creating a potentially catastrophic humanitarian crisis unless aid shipments resume soon.
