QRCS President Meets IFRC President

HE President of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) Yousef bin Ali Al Khater met with HE President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Kate Forbes on her current visit to the State of Qatar. The meeting addressed a host of important topics on the regional and international humanitarian scene, including the region's humanitarian situation, joint efforts to assist victims of conflicts and humanitarian crises, the risks and challenges faced by field workers, utilizing artificial intelligence in humanitarian work, enhancing the role of the region's IFRC national societies, and promoting a culture of humanitarian work to children from a young age. Discussions particularly focused on the ongoing humanitarian crises in Gaza and Sudan, highlighting the painful and tragic events unfolding there. Both parties emphasized the need for concerted efforts to put an end the ongoing wars and the need for increased international pressure to prevent associated violations. Additionally , they discussed preparations for the upcoming constitutional meetings and the election of the Standing Commission of the International Federation in Geneva next October. During Her Excellency's two-day visit, Kate Forbes held several meetings, made various visits, and participated in an array of activities and events. She learned about QRCS's work on various fronts, its intervention process during local and international emergencies, in addition to learning more about QRCS's Disaster Management Camp. In collaboration with the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS), HE Kate Forbes delivered a public lecture entitled Protection of Children in Disaster, Emergency, and Crisis Situations, during which she highlighted IFRC crucial role in crise response with its teams strategically stationed around the world, providing urgent and continuous support to affected children. Forbes stressed the importance of strengthening legal frameworks to protect children during crises and called for including all stak eholders in the process. She also urged for immediate and comprehensive international action to protect children against numerous potential risks, which she considered a legal and moral obligation that falls on the entire international community. HE Secretary-General of QRCS Faisal Mohamed Al Emadi inaugurated this morning a two-day workshop on Advancing Crisis Response in Health through QRCS and ICRC Partnership.
