Russian Defense Ministry: 190 Ukrainian Soldiers Eliminated in Kursk

Doha: Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday that its forces inflicted heavy losses on Ukrainian troops along Kursk axis over the past 24 hours, reporting around 190 Ukrainian soldiers killed.

According to Qatar News Agency, in a statement, the ministry said that units from Russia’s Northern Group targeted Ukrainian military formations in the border areas of Gornal and Oleshnya, in Kursk region. The strikes reportedly destroyed one tank, one infantry fighting vehicle, one armored combat vehicle, 12 vehicles, four field artillery pieces, three mortars, and a multiple rocket launcher system.

The ministry added that total Ukrainian losses in Kursk direction since the start of the conflict include over 74,010 personnel, 406 tanks, 333 infantry fighting vehicles, 302 armored personnel carriers, 2,265 armored vehicles, 2,690 vehicles, 606 artillery systems, 54 multiple rocket launchers, one self-propelled anti-aircraft platform, ten transport and loading vehicles, 123 electronic warfare systems, 18 counter-battery radars, 10 air defense radars, 57 units of engineering equipment, and other military assets.

Ukrainian forces had launched a surprise offensive in Kursk border region last August and remain active in parts of the area. Last month, Russia’s defense ministry claimed its forces had retaken 29 settlements in the region between March 8 and 14.

Since the beginning of the war now entering its fourth year Russia and Ukraine exchanged daily reports of successfully repelling each other’s attacks. These claims are difficult to verify independently due to the ongoing conflict and battlefield conditions since Feb. 24, 2022.
