Doha: Some of the world's top golfers will face off in a thrilling contest at the annual $2m Commercial Bank Qatar Masters in Doha which will be played from March 24-27 as part of the DP World Tour at the Doha Golf Club, organizers of the event said on Friday.

Around 140 top-ranked players vie for the mother of Pearl Trophy at the tournament which celebrates its silver jubilee this year and which returns to its original home at Doha Golf Course, after two years at Education City.

The Qatar Masters is a professional golf tournament, which was part of the erstwhile European Tour and was founded in 1998, making it the 2nd oldest DP World Tour event on the Arabian Peninsula after the Dubai Desert Classic, and it now forms part of an extended Middle East Swing on the tour.

Last year, Antoine Rozner’s closing 67 helped him ward off the challenge of Italian Guido Migliozzie, South Africa’s Darren Fichardt and Indian star Gaganjeet Bhullar, all who finished tied second, one back. England’s Richard McEvoy and Welshman Jamie Donaldson rounded out the top five.

The event which has had been previously won by the likes of Ernie Els, Adam Scott, Paul Lawrie and Henrik Stenson will see some of the top ranked players in attendance at the 2022 edition.

The highly anticipated event organised by The Qatar Golf Association (QGA), the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), Doha Golf Club (DGC) and long-term title sponsor, Commercial Bank will have its pro-am event on March 23 and the champion will be crowned on March 27.

The Qatar Golf Association officials are working overtime to put the logistics and the technical aspects of hosting the tournament in place.

“The officials of DP World Tour are expected to arrive two weeks before the events and the next batch of officials will check into Doha one week prior to the event, followed by the media team which is covering the event for DP World Tour, followed by the players, caddies and other personnel,” informed Mike Shoueiry Technical Director at QGA.

“We have made all the arrangements and working at top pace to give the best experience to fans, officials and all those associated with the tournament,” he added.
