Syrian President and Lebanese Premier Discuss Bilateral Ties and Refugee Return

Damascus: Syrian President Ahmad Al Sharaa met with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, who is in Damascus for an official visit. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing key issues such as border control and the return of refugees.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Lebanese government released a statement highlighting the significance of the visit, describing it as a new phase in bilateral relations. The statement emphasized mutual respect, trust restoration, neighborliness, sovereignty preservation, and non-interference in internal affairs as the foundations of this renewed relationship.

The discussions between the two leaders also covered border management and crossings, paving the way for land and maritime border demarcation. This dialogue builds on the outcomes of the Jeddah meeting between the defense ministers of both nations.

On the economic front, the talks included cooperation in several sectors, the opening of trade and transit routes, collaboration in the oil and gas industries, and a review of civil aviation routes. A ministerial committee was agreed upon to follow up on all matters of mutual interest.
