Manama, Mohamed bin Thamer Al Kaabi, the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, participated in the International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) Digital Skills Forum, hosted by Bahrain and organised by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority in cooperation with the ITU. The event was attended by ministers, heads of authorities from ITU member states, and experts from the telecommunications and IT sectors. The minister highlighted of the government's commitment, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to investing in youth and equipping them with the knowledge and tools to thrive in the digital age. This includes initiatives to bridge the digital skills gap, build capabilities, and connect talent with promising opportunities in the IT sector through advanced training programmes in partnership with the private sector, fostering innovation in the Kingdom. The three-day forum will discuss various topics, including developing skills for digi tal transformation, closing the digital divide, the impact of emerging technologies, the shift to a digital economy, environmental sustainability, and promoting safe online practices. Bahrain's Sixth National Telecommunications Plan (2023-2026) won the United Nations' 2024 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prize, recognising its initiatives to drive innovation in the telecommunications and IT sectors, develop digital skills, and align with Bahrain's Vision 2030 and the 2023-2026 ICT strategic plan.
