The Ministry of Defense handed over the remains of missing Iranians to the Iranian side. The Ministry of Defense stated in a statement: "The Legal Department, represented by the Human Rights Directorate, handed over the remains of missing persons in the First Gulf War (1980-1988) through the Shalamcheh border crossing, under the supervision of the International Committee of the Red Cross." It added: "The Iranian side was handed over the remains of 99 missing Iranians, which were found inside Iraqi territory during joint search operations in the Basra and Maysan Operations Sector. The ceremony was held in the official presence of all security agencies, represented by the Basra Operations Command and the Governorate Police Command. It pointed out: "The Legal Department, represented by the Human Rights Directorate, handed over the remains of 19 missing Iranians through the Zurbatiyah border crossing, under the supervision of the International Committee of the Red Cross. They were found inside Iraqi territory during joint search operations in the Wasit and Diyala Operations Sector.
