Doha: Video-sharing platform TikTok has announced the launch of a new security tool called Security Checkup, a centralized dashboard designed to help users easily secure their accounts.
According to Qatar News Agency, the tool can be found in the “Settings and Privacy” section, under the “Security and Permissions” options in the app. It offers a range of security options, such as linking your account to a phone number or email address to ensure a backup method of logging in, enabling two-factor authentication, setting up a passkey, and enabling biometric authentication login options, such as face recognition or fingerprints.
The tool provides the ability to view the devices connected to the account, revoke access to any unknown or no longer used device, and monitor any suspicious activity that may occur on the account, alerting the user to take appropriate action.
This move by TikTok comes at a time when hacking attempts and cyber attacks targeting personal accounts are on the rise, making enhanced security standards essential.
Through the “Security Checkup” tool, the platform seeks to provide a safe user experience for users, while reducing the risk of account takeover or hacking.
TikTok is expected to gradually launch the tool in different regions before making it available to all users worldwide.
