Qatardebate center: UDST and DPS Modern Indian School emerged victorious at the QatarDebate Open (3v3) Championship, which concluded at the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST). This event saw significant involvement from key educational institutions across the country.
According to Qatar News Agency, the championship featured intense competition among 22 teams from nine educational institutions, including 33 debaters and 32 adjudicators. This participation underscores the increasing importance of debate culture and critical thinking among students nationwide.
The institutions involved in this year's championship included Qatar University, Georgetown University in Qatar, Doha University of Science and Technology, Texas A and M University at Qatar, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, DPS Modern Indian School, DPS Monarch International School, the Lebanese School in Qatar, and Team Qatar.
The competition rounds covered a spectrum of relevant issues such as academic prestige in university selection, government elder care support, and critiques of careers in the knowledge economy. Advanced rounds explored complex topics like online trading platforms, environmental justice, and narratives around illness and recovery.
UDST clinched the championship title with a team comprising Zaid Zubair Maloul, Asiyil Alaswad, and Qass Behzad. The Texas A and M University at Qatar team secured second place, with members Mohammed Bakri, Rhee Jeremiah Costan, and Aiman Mohammed Ali.
Individual accolades were awarded to Asiyil Alaswad as Best Finals Speaker, while Mohamed Bakri and Victoria Honoridez were recognized as Best Speaker Overall.
In the Schools Category, DPS Modern Indian School claimed first place, with another team from the same school as runner-up. Saara Bhardwaj was awarded both Best Finals Speaker and Best Speaker Overall in the schools division.
The winners were celebrated by QatarDebate's Communications Manager Reem Al Mosallam and UDST's Manager of Student Engagement Eman Al Sharshani. The championship is a key initiative by QatarDebate to foster a culture of constructive dialogue and enhance critical thinking skills among young people, aiming to develop a generation equipped for informed discussions and positive engagement with both local and global issues.
