According to Qatar News Agency, the S and P 500 rose 0.8 percent, and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.63 percent, buoyed by semiconductors which rose as a group after strong quarterly results by Intel Corp. Conversely, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.16 percent.
