Al Jeryan Stud’s AJS Sarhan wins Al Zubara Trophy
Under the patronage of the H.H. the Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the events of the H.H. The Amir Sword Festival continued on Friday, 17 February with the second day of the Festival. The day saw a bumper 10 cup race card and it was wrapped up with the Al Zubara Trophy. The three-day Festival will conclude on Saturday, with the final day which will see equine starts taking on each other for the coveted titles, topped by the H.H. The Amir Sword (G1 PA) and the H.H. The Amir Trophy (Gr1 QA).
Equinoxe
Concluding the day’s racing, Wathnan Racing’s Equinoxe (QA (Atlantic Air x Thurayya) recorded his fourth straight win and 14th in 20 career starts, as he stretched clear under jockey Ronan Thomas to win the Al Rayyan Breeders Cup for trainer Alban de Mieulle. In the final furlong of the 2000m race for 4YO+ Local Thoroughbreds, Thomas unleashed Equinoxe’s turn of foot and he sauntered clear to win by two and quarter lengths.
H.E. Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi, QREC Chairman, crowned the winners.
AJS Sarhan
In the penultimate race, Al Jeryan Stud’s homebred AJS Sarhan (QA) (AF AlBahar x Mangaline DU Loup) gave a good performance in the day’s penultimate race, a 2000m race for 4YO+ Local Purebred Arabians, to land the Al Zubara Trophy by half a length, recording a second victory for the owner, a third for trainer Gassim Ghazali and even a fourth for jockey Maxime Guyon on the day.
Hamad bin Abdulrahman Al Attiyah, QREC Vice Chairman, crowned the winners.
Mystical Music
Earlier, Nasser Saeed Al Eida’s Mystical Music (GB) (Al Kazeem x Midnight Dance) began the day winning the Thoroughbred Open Sprint Cup. Saddled by trainer Gassim Ghazali and ridden by jockey Maxime Guyon, the 4YO gelding took the 1200m race for 4YO+ by three quarters of a length, recording a fourth win in his last five runs.
Olivier Delloye, France Galop General Manager, crowned the winners.
AA Feel The Burn
There was a thrilling finish to the 1750m Purebred Arabian Open Cup for 4YO+ as H.E. Sheikha Reem bint Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani’s AA Feel The Burn (US) (Burning Sand x Rich Sister) prevailed by a head from Ghaliya (FR) (Al Mamun Monlau). The pair were locked together in the final stages, but the Rudy Nerbonne-trained colt found a little extra to win under Lukas Delozier.
Ahmed Amanalla Al Sheebani, Manager of QREC Support Services Department, crowned the winners.
Latamah
The 1750m Local Thoroughbred Desert Rose for 4YO+ fillies and mares went the way of Al Jeryan Stud’s homebred Latamah (QA) (Pivotal x Poseidon’s Bride), from the stable of M.H.K Al Attiyah, as the 8YO picked up strongly under jockey Szczepan Mazur to run out a comfortable one and three-quarter length victory.
Jaber Abdullah Al Hmaidi , Board Member Zoomarts Company, crowned the winners.
Roma
Noora Racing Limited’s Roma (QA) (Al Mourtajez x Niriam) came with a rattle in in the straight to win the 1750m Local Purebred Arabians Al Na’ama Cup for 4YO+ fillies and mares. The final winning margin for Mohamed Khaled Elahmed-trained 4YO was one and three quarter lengths under jockey Maxime Guyon, who completed a double on the day.
Hassan Ismael Al Mohamed, Assistant Vice President, Events Management, QNB, crowned the winners.
Divine Princess
Trainer Rudy Nerbonne and jockey Lukas Delozier teamed up to good effect once again as H.E. Sheikha Yasmeen bint Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani’s Divine Princess (FR) (Amer x Nacree Al Maury) took the Purebred Arabians Seada Cup for 4YO+ fillies and mares by a quarter of a length.
Hassan Yousef Al Obaidly, Head of Program’s Research and Evaluation Section of the Social & Sport Contribution Fund (Daam), crowned the winners.
Make A Wish
Gassim Ghazali doubled up as he annexed the Thoroughbred Oryx Cup for 3YO+ fillies and mares, with his two stablemates, Make A Wish (IRE) (No Nay Never x Saturn Girl) and Gold Fleece (GB) (Nathaniel) only separated by a nose at the line. The race went to the Injaaz Stud’s Make A Wish with Jim Crowley in the saddle for the victory.
Duke of Richmond crowned the winners.
Hadlan
Abdullah Saeed Abdullah Al Mesnad’s Hadlan (QA) (AF AlBahar x Brasilya) dazzled yet again, landing the Gulf Cup. Under jockey David Egan, the Wasim Al Sahn-trained 4YO colt he bolted up by three lengths in the 1500m contest for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians bred in the GCC, recording his fourth victory in his fifth career start.
H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani, President of 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic & Sports Museum, crowned the winners
Shgarde
Another very close finish was in the PA Listed Purebred Arabian Sprint Cup and it eventually went the way of Sharida bin Nasser bin Sharida Al Kaabi’s Shgarde (USA) (AF AlBahar x Dormania CS), who edged out AJS Berline (QA) (AF AlBahar) to win by a neck, completing a double and a treble on the day for trainer Mohamed Khaled Elahmed and jockey Maxime Guyon respectively.
Jassim Mohammed Al Emadi, Vice Chairman of Al Emadi Real Estate Enterprises, crowned the winners.
