Zakat Affairs Department Completes Zakat Al-Fitr Parcel Preparation

Doha: The Zakat Affairs Department at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has completed the packaging of Zakat Al-Fitr food parcels in collaboration with a major shopping mall. This initiative was executed with the participation of students from the Al Noor Arabic and Quran Learning Center, part of Awqaf’s Department of Religious Call and Guidance. The project aims to instill values of charity and humanitarian work in younger generations while teaching them the precepts of the Prophetic Sunnah.

According to Qatar News Agency, Yousef Hassan Al Hammadi, Head of the Zakat Services Department at Awqaf, announced that the department has set the value of a sa’ of the local staple food for the year 1446 AH at QR 15 per person, equivalent to 2.5 kilograms. This follows the Prophetic Sunnah and ensures that Zakat Al-Fitr is distributed as food reflective of the common sustenance of the people. Al Hammadi emphasized that the parcels contain essential food items, such as rice, flour, and lentils, with a focus on selecting the highest quality available in the domestic market to provide nutritious items to underprivileged families during Eid Al-Fitr.

Al Hammadi also highlighted that all Zakat Al-Fitr funds are converted into food and distributed to eligible recipients at a rate of 100%, with no administrative deductions, in compliance with Islamic law. This is in line with the department’s commitment to its motto regarding the distribution of Zakat. The department, in collaboration with a leading delivery company in Qatar, ensured the distribution of food baskets to eligible families before the Eid Al-Fitr prayer, adhering to the prescribed time and safeguarding the dignity of recipients.

Students from the Al Noor center participated in packing the parcels, fostering social responsibility and charitable values while supporting families in need during Ramadan. The department also emphasized that Zakat Al-Fitr can be dispensed earlier in Ramadan by authorizing the department to allocate it at the prescribed time, ensuring its timely distribution before the Eid prayer and fulfilling the giver’s obligation according to Islamic jurisprudence.

To facilitate the Zakat process, the department has implemented advanced digital solutions, allowing individuals and corporations to calculate and remit their Zakat via its smart application, available on Apple and Android platforms or through its official website (www.zakakt.gov.qa).
