Two people were killed and about 20 others injured in a train derailment in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand. Indian media reported, citing officials, that the accident occurred in the morning when 18 coaches of the Howrah-Mumbai mail train derailed. Rescue operations are still underway, with members of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushing to the scene. An Indian Railways spokesman said that the mail train collided with the freight train, adding that another freight train derailed near the accident site, but it is not yet clear whether the two accidents occurred simultaneously. The railway network is one of the most important means of transportation in India when covering long distances, but it suffers from problems in its infrastructure, which causes accidents.
