32 killed, 63 injured in Cairo-Alexandria desert road collision

Cairo, A car collision on the Cairo-Alexandria desert road early Saturday killed 32 people and injured 63 others, according to Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population.

The accident involved a passenger bus and several cars, some of which caught fire. They collided in the Wadi El-Natrun area, before the international highway, heading towards Cairo, as per the ministry’s statement carried by ahramonline.

Of the injured, 53 are being treated at the Wadi El-Natrun Day Surgery Hospital while seven are being treated at the West El Nobaria Central Hospital, the statement said.

The remaining three received treatment at the scene of the accident, it added.

The families of the deceased will be provided with EGP 60,000 by the Ministry of Social Solidarity and Nasser Social Bank, according to a statement from the ministry.

The ministry will also provide financial assistance to the injured based on their needs and the severity of their injuries, added the statement.
