New delhi: A fire broke out on a Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) plane as it was preparing to take off from Indira Gandhi International Airport, prompting an emergency declaration and the evacuation of passengers, according to Indian authorities.
According to Qatar News Agency, the incident occurred late Saturday night when smoke was observed coming from the left wheel of the aircraft destined for Zurich. This led to the immediate cancellation of the takeoff process.
Sources reported that four passengers out of the 232 people on board sustained minor injuries during the evacuation via the emergency slides. The injured were taken to receive treatment, while all passengers were evacuated safely.
Delhi airport confirmed in a statement that a full state of emergency was declared immediately upon detection of the incident, and all approved safety protocols were implemented. Airport operations were not affected by the incident.
This incident follows a previous one on March 28, when an IndiGo plane was forced to make an emergency landing at the same airport due to a possible technical malfunction in the engine, although no injuries were reported.
