A 5.0 magnitude earthquake struck the southern Turkish province of Kahramanmaras today The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said in a statement that a 5.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in Kahramanmaras, centered in the district of Pazarcik. The statement indicated that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 7 kilometers below the Earth's surface. AFAD confirmed that there have been no reported casualties so far as a result of the earthquake, and that field survey efforts are ongoing in the region. It should be noted that a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey and northern Syria on Feb. 6, 2023, followed by another 7.6 magnitude earthquake and thousands of strong aftershocks, resulting in tens of thousands of casualties and causing widespread damage to buildings and property in both countries.
