The Ministry of Municipality and Environment, represented by the Urban Planning Department, has held a press conference on Sunday morning. It announced that the 57th ISOCARP Congress will launch in Doha during 8th ? 11th November 2021.
The press conference was attended by Eng. Fahad Mohammed Al-Qahtani, Assistant Undersecretary for Urban Planning- MME and the Chairman of the High Organizing Committee for the ISOCARP, and a group of the Ministry's officials.
During the press conference, Eng. Mubarak Al-Nuaimi, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for the 57th ISOCARP, announced the Qatari actions and arrangements for hosting this significant international congress. Eng. Mubarak explained that this event comes just one year before hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, marking a great opportunity to showcase the Qatari astonishing preparations for this event. He added that we and all the cities of the State of Qatar, especially Doha, are bound to set the standard of contemporary green cities for offering the quality of life to all its inhabitants through sustainable urban planning. This congress will be a scientific and professional forum to exchange international next-level expertise in planning among international, regional and gulf delegations concerned with planning.
The main theme of the Congress was fittingly selected to mark the importance of this event and propose topics relevant to the post Covid-19 challenges and the climate change concerns. Therefore, it was decided to set the theme (Urban Planning unlocked: New Times, Better Places, Stronger Communities).
In addition, five sub-themes were determined to cover all the topics relevant to the contemporary urban planning, such as sustainability, inclusion, empowerment, and well-being, smart and healthy cities, resilience, adaptability, and urban communication
