The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, called for an immediate halt to military operations in Gaza and the opening of safe corridors for the entry of water, food and other materials and to rescue the wounded.
Aboul Gheit said in a speech at the thirty-ninth session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice held in Baghdad today: “Gaza has been besieged for 17 years under the watchful eye of the world.”
He added: "The massacre committed in Gaza will not only remain a disgrace that haunts Israel, but an insult to the international community and the global conscience," stressing: "The forced displacement of the population is a war crime, and not distinguishing between military personnel and civilians is also a war crime."
At the end of his speech, Aboul Gheit called for there to be action and a political horizon that will achieve the existence of the State of Palestine, otherwise things will remain like this round after round.”
