Advisor to Prime Minister Highlights Qatar’s Mediation Role at Brussels Panel

Brussels: Advisor to the Prime Minister and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, participated in a panel discussion titled “Qatar’s Role in the International Mediation,” held in Brussels. The event was organized by the Embassy of Qatar in the Kingdom of Belgium and the Royal Institute for International Relations (Egmont).

According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Al Ansari emphasized Qatar’s significant role in international mediation, drawing from over 25 years of experience in promoting dialogue and achieving peace within conflict zones. He elaborated on the necessity of a flexible mediation approach that addresses challenges and fosters conflict resolution. Qatar’s vision involves integrating political and humanitarian efforts, with the belief that alleviating civilian suffering is key to enduring peace.

Dr. Al Ansari provided concrete examples of Qatar’s mediation strategy, including efforts in Afghanistan, humanitarian initiatives to reconnect children with their families, and addressing the humanitarian impact of the Russia-Ukraine crisis. He also acknowledged the challenges in mediation, such as the complex regional and international dimensions of conflicts and the increasing media and political scrutiny of mediation’s effectiveness and neutrality.

He reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to a mediation strategy characterized by tactical neutrality and strategic engagement, bolstered by robust international partnerships and dedication to peace processes. Qatar actively shares its expertise to develop equitable and inclusive mediation models.

The panel was attended by HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Khalid bin Fahad Al Hajri, Belgian officials, diplomatic mission heads, and representatives of international organizations and the European Union in Brussels.
