President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa slammed Israeli occupations aggression against Palestinians as a grim and more than half a century apartheid. After its 11-month aggression on the Gaza Strip, the Israeli occupation continues to impose collective punishment on the people of Gaza and the suffering of the people of Gaza continues unabated, Ramaphosa told the 79th UNGA opening session on Tuesday. South Africans- who lived, suffered and died under apartheid- will not remain silent and watch apartheid being perpetrated against others, Ramaphosa said. He stressed that the suffering of Palestinians need to end through the UN's tools and that international law cannot be applied selectively. Referring to the case filed by South Africa before the International Court of Justice to prevent the Israeli entity from committing genocide against the people of Gaza, Ramaphosa added that the world must strive for a world free of atrocities that offend the conscience of humanity and that genocide and apartheid are a stain on the conscience of the world.
