Al-Hakim: We need international support according to Iraq’s challenges in the areas of the economy, climate, drugs, and the banking system

Baghdad - Head of the National Wisdom Movement, Ammar al-Hakim, met with the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and head of the independent team for the strategic review of the United Nations mission in Iraq, Volker Perthes and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, Al-Hakim explained the nature of the difficult circumstances that Iraq went through during its journey in the past twenty years, pointing to the major transformations in Iraq represented by the transition from the stage of a dictatorial regime to a democratic regime, while he praised the presence of the UNAMI mission as an expression of the international community’s support for the democratic experience in Iraq during the two decades. The past two years, and the sacrifices made by the mission during its work there.

He stressed that Iraq is developing its situation, as the Iraq of 2023 is completely different from 2003, pointing to developments in the political scene, including the formation of the state Administration Coalition as the ruling coalition and the strong incubator of the government, as well as the existence of many things in common between the political forces despite the difference in stripes and orientations, also stressing Iraq’s desire By being open to everyone and dealing with balance in his relationships based on his interests.

He stressed that Iraq needs cooperation with the United Nations in these challenges in accordance with the priorities it sets. He also stressed Iraq's desire for a humanitarian role for the United Nations and to grant an increased role to UN agencies.
