Climbing the ranks steadily, the Al Shaqab Racing-owned and homebred Pure Arabian filly Al Wakrah (TM Fred Texas x Majida) took a first stakes success with an impressive performance in the Gr.3 (PA) Prix Nevadour at La Teste De Buch on Friday, August 19th.
Under the care of leading trainer Eric Lemartinel, the progressive four-year-old broke her maiden on her first outing of the year in Qatar, following seven placed efforts in 2021 and has now won three races.
Ridden by Qatari talented jockey Faleh Bughenaim and sporting cheek pieces for the 1,900m contest, Al Wakrah produced an exciting turn off foot to see off her eight rivals readily.
Keen towards the rear of the field, Al Wakrah was waited with by her jockey, who had been off the scoresheet in France since 2018. Taking closer order on the turn for home, the filly swept down the outside of the field to lead inside the final 200m. Galloping clear of her rivals, Al Wakrah passed the post with two and a half lengths to spare over the Mohamed Bin Fahad Al Attiyah Sahab (AF Albahar), who is trained by Thomas Fourcy and was ridden by Jermoe Cabre, in second, with Monda (No Risk Al Maury) in the Al Wasmiyah Racing’s colours back in third for trainer X. Thomas-Demeaulte and under jockey Anthony Crastus.
Now a Gr.3 (PA) winner, Al Wakrah can continue the fine line of Majida (Majd Al Arab), who was both Listed and Gr.3 placed in the colours of Al Shaqab Racing. The second dam, Al Ryme (Kesberoy) has produced five stakes performers, the most successful being the Newbury Gr.1 (PA) winner, Al Mouhannad (Nizam).
