The Al Shaqab Racing-owned SUBAHIYAH (Le Havre x Gherdaiya) broke her maiden in good style when landing the Prix Du Jardin Des Cascades (Maiden) at Chantilly on Saturday, December 18th.
Trained by Jean-Claude Rouget and ridden by Coralie Pacaut, the two-year-old filly put in a polished performance to take the 1,600m on her fourth career start, following three placed efforts during the Autumn.
Despite a wide draw in stall 12, Subahiyah was quickly into stride and led the field through the early stages. Joviale Bere (Pedro The Great) and Stormania (Goken) pressed Subahiyah after half way, provoking a strong pace from the leader. On entering the straight, Subahiyah continued to travel strongly and had most of her 13 rivals under pressure. Pushed along from 300m out, she held off all challenges inside the closing stages, going on to score by a length and a half at the line. Gofast (Goken) put in some strong late work to finish second, a head in front of Bon Appetit (Kendargent), who finished third.
Bred by Al Shaqab Racing, Subahiyah is by Montfort & Preaux stallion Le Havre (Noverre). Her dam Gherdaiya (Shamardal) won two races as a two-year-old and placed third in the Prix d’Aumale (Grp 3). Along with Subahiyah, Gherdaiya has also produced Shershab (Shalaa), a winner of two races. Gherdaiya is a full-sister to French Navy (Shamardal), a three-time winner Group 3 level.
