On the scoresheet for the second time in his career, the Al Shaqab Racing-owned TAJDID (Toronado x Anew) adapted well to a step up in distance to land the Market Cross Jewellers Handicap at Redcar on Saturday, October 2nd.
Trained by Richard Hannon and ridden to success by jockey Dane O’Neill, the three-year-old gelding stepped up to 2,800m for the first time in his career and scored a comfortable victory.
The early pace was dictated by outsider SET IN STONE (Famous Name). TAJDID was settled just in behind the leader and travelled well. SEPTEMBER POWER (Mastercraftsman) missed the break, but was forced to the lead after 400m. With only a steady pace being set, TAJDID took over at the head of the field after 1,000m and set a decent rhythm. On the turn for home, TAJDID had most of his eight rivals off the bridle and was asked to go clear inside the final 400m. BILLY NO MATES (Clodovil) made some eye-catching late ground, but could never land a true blow to TAJDID, who went on to score comfortably by a length at the line. SET IN STONE ran a good race to finish third.
Bred by his owners Al Shaqab Racing, TAJDID is by Haras De Bouquetot stallion TORONADO (High Chaparal). His dam ANEW (Oasis Dream) was unraced and is a sister to six individual winners, including the Group 2 winner TREAT GENTLY (Cape Cross) and the Listed placed IDEOLOGY (Oasis Dream).
