The Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, chaired, this evening, Wednesday, a meeting of the Ministerial Council for National Security, in the presence of Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein and members of the Council.
During the meeting, developments in the security situation in the country were discussed, and the efforts of various types of security forces in combating the remnants of ISIS terrorist gangs, combating organized crime, and pursuing drug traffickers.
The meeting discussed the establishment of a solid, integrated information system for criminal justice, supported by a database that includes the judicial archive in accordance with approved international standards, through which the movement of people accused of committing a specific crime is tracked and in a manner consistent with criminal justice standards, in order to support the achievement of a just and prompt judiciary, and in a way that ensures shortened procedures, and helps reduce costs and shorten time.
The meeting also discussed the joint security agreement between Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding maintaining the borders between the two countries, which was concluded after the visit of an Iraqi delegation headed by the National Security Advisor to Tehran. During its visit, it discussed full security coordination between Iraq and Iran based on the principle of good neighbourliness, as the two parties began Implementing the terms of the agreement, which include maintaining the border strip by the two countries and preventing armed demonstrations along this strip.
Within the framework of security coordination with various neighboring countries, the Prime Minister directed the Minister of Foreign Affairs to communicate with his Turkish counterpart regarding activating bilateral security committees to address border security problems.
The Council also discussed a number of other topics on the agenda, and took the necessary measures regarding them.
