Al-Sudani: Our ties with Iran are historical, solid and ancient

Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani stressed: "Our ties with Iran are historical, solid and ancient." He said in a joint press conference with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that the joint economic file is an important gateway to achieve the aspirations of the peoples of the two neighboring countries. He added: We discussed the broad and multi-faceted strategic bilateral partnership. The Prime Minister continued: Our discussions emphasized strengthening transportation lines and logistical connectivity, and we have made significant progress on the Basra-Shalamcheh line. The Prime Minister said: We discussed many projects, including the development road and the land road. He added: We focused on the border industrial zones project in Wasit, Maysan and Basra. Al-Sudani said: We discussed the work of Iranian companies, indicating that Iraq's position was clear as a government to expand the economic partnership. The Prime Minister added: We thank the Islamic Republic for supplying gas and facilitat ing its purchase from Turkmenistan. He continued: We talked about the importance of stability in the region, which is threatened by the Zionist entity with the ongoing genocide against Gaza. He said: We stressed the prevention of the expansion of the conflict and the violation of the sovereignty of states, and we stressed our constitutional position not to allow any party to threaten the Islamic Republic from our country. He explained that communication is ongoing between the security services to control the borders and prevent smuggling that harms the internal security of the two countries. For his part, the Iranian president said: I extend my thanks to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. He added that" it is a good opportunity to be on my first visit to Iraq." He continued: I wanted to follow up on the work of the previously concluded agreements and those concluded today, which represent a new start for cooperation between the two countries. The Iranian president said: We agreed to form a team of experts from the two countries in various fields to develop strategic plans for broader cooperation between the two countries. He added: We need to activate the security agreements between the two countries to deter terrorists and those who want to target security in the region. He explained that the agreements that were concluded were successful and we need to remove those that were not successful. The Iranian president said: We want a strong, stable and secure Iraq in which brotherhood and calm prevail.
